New Students Start Here

Welcome to my English 2P class! If you are entering my class after the school year has started, follow the steps below to get situated with a new classroom and teacher. Please complete the following tasks within one week of joining my class to ensure that you are prepared for a successful rest of the year, regardless of how short or long that may be. Keep me updated with your progress on these tasks every day and let me know if you need to come in during office hours to complete them.

  1. Introduce yourself to me as soon as possible! I will match you up with a peer who can help you get set up with our class routines and procedures.
  2. Get a spiral notebook and ask your partner to help you set it up properly.
  3. Make sure you know how to log into your GAFE (Google Account for Education). If you do not know your access information, go to the Guidance Office.
  4. Join your period’s Google Classroom. Click here for access codes. Click here for help on how to join a class.
  5. Add the class toolbox to your Drive. Click here to open the folder, then click Add to My Drive  to place all of our class resources into your Drive for easy access.
  6. Join Remind for updates.  Click here to join my class or view this PDF for more detailed instructions.
  7. Explore my website, heymissdinh.com. Click through all the links and read all the sections on all the pages. If you are confused or need clarification about anything, do not hesitate to ask questions or share your concerns.
    • Read and make sure you understand everything outlined in the syllabus. Share it with your parents. If you or your parents are confused or need clarification about anything, do not hesitate to ask questions or share your concerns.
    • Peruse the quarterly calendars (Students > English 2P > Q# Calendar) to get an idea of what our class has been studying.
    • Familiarize yourself with my Day One Rules and Technology Policy. My classroom expectations may be new to you or different than what you’re used to.
  8. Check out a physical copy of the textbook from the Bookstore. You will only need to bring it on certain days.
  9. Get a copy of the Close Reader workbook from me. You can keep this in the classroom.
  10. Get a copy of the Performance Assessments workbook from me. You will only need to bring it on certain days.
  11. Get your writing portfolio from your previous English teacher. If you are transferring from a different school, ask me for a new one. Put it in your period’s filing cabinet.
  12. Get as many suggested school supplies as possible to make it easier for you to be prepared and successful on all activities and assignments.
